Christopher W. Smelser received his B.Sc. degree in physics from the University of Toronto in 1998, his M.Sc. degree in physics from the University of Waterloo in 2001 where he studied with Nobel laureate Donna Strickland, and his Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Ottawa in 2007. From 2001 to 2012 Dr. Smelser was a Research Scientist at the Communications Research Centre in Ottawa ON, Canada. In 2012 Dr. Smelser joined the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University in Ottawa and is currently the coordinator of the Photonics and Laser Technology Program in the School of Information Technology.
Dr. Smelser’s research interests include laser assisted fabrication of photonic components, hybrid optical devices, non-linear optics and optical sensors and their applications
